For now, it’s just a steel and concrete project in the making–but soon the George S. and Dolores Dore Eccles Theater in Downtown Salt Lake City will ring with the sound of a baboon introducing throngs of animals to a new lion cub.

In other words, Salt Lake City’s new Broadway-style theater has booked “The Lion King.”

The production, slated for early 2017, is the first big event announced for the 2,500-seat theater under construction.

The mayors of Salt Lake City and Salt Lake County made the announcement from the top of a parking garage overlooking the construction.

“It is truly going to be another crown jewel in the arts and cultural offerings of Salt Lake County,” said Salt Lake County Mayor Ben McAdams.
